Genius Loci · A house of olfactory archives

The soul of a place, kept.

Extracts of places that no longer exist, or do not exist yet. Diffused by Orb, a stone and gold object made once.

I · THE HOUSE

Genius Loci does not create perfumes. It documents places.

Each creation is the sensory trace of a place, an era, an instant: captured before it disappears, or imagined before it exists. When the material has vanished from nature, we rebuild it, cleanly, molecule by molecule. Not a perfume that tells a beautiful story. A perfume that keeps a trace.

II · THE OBJECT

Orb. Only light and air.

A sphere of openworked gold-tone metal, crafted like a jewel, holds the scented beads. Air passes through; nothing else. No heat, no water, no mist. Dry-air diffusion keeps the extract intact, and silent.

The sphere rests in a base turned from stone. No two blocks share a vein, so no two Orbs are alike. Genius Loci is the only house where the object itself is an edition of one.

III · THE DOSSIER

Every release opens a file.

Five entries, in this order. The object closes it.

01The placeReal or composite, with coordinates, era and context.
02The momentThe hour, the season, the event.
03The noseInvited for their sensitivity to this place, not for their name.
04The materialWhat this place is made of, rebuilt when it has vanished.
05The OrbThe unique piece that anchors it all in physical space.
IV · THE RITUAL

Paper by day, ember by night.

The Orb app is a calm instrument. Name your rituals, set the hour and the intensity once, and let several Orbs share one home. At sunset the interface turns to ember on its own.

VI · BEHIND GENIUS LOCI

Where art met olfactory technology.

Coco Brun, artist: craft and material, shaped by residencies with artisans in Mexico, Italy, Thailand and Indonesia. She gives Orb its stone, its pattern, its hand.

Byzance, Paris: twenty years of olfactory devices for Hermès, Chanel, LVMH, Diptyque and Amouage. Byzance gives Orb its breath: the dry-air core, the electronics, the app.
